Thermography with an Eastern Perspective

thermography-02

As a practitioner of East Asian Medicine, we tend to look at the body on a scale measure rather than black and white. Sometimes it is challenging for those who come from a binary perspective which our medicine is often based on, to observe a relative scale, or in the context of thermography a colour range.

During a thermographic assessment the thermographer is looking for both a relative scale on the body, and certain patterns and measures. It is commonly known that problems arise when there are certain temperatures present (more on that in a future post) The thermographer also notices patterns such as a parallel between ipsilateral (same side) heat signals such as in the breast, and in the jaw/teeth. Another aspect of thermographic assessment is relativity within the body.  An example of this could be that the overall body temperature is lower or higher, or the tempature of an area is elevated on one side of the body, but not in the same area on the other side of the body.

This is one example of why it could be helpful to have full body thermographic scans or in this case, a breast scan as well as a cranio/dental/thyroid scan would be required to identify this parallel. A full set of thermographic scans on a clients first visit enables the thermographer to identify if there are such patterns, and if so it may be suggested that annual or bi-annual scans may be recommended in order to monitor a situation over time. If no patterns exist on a systemic level, then a patient can rest assured and focus on their areas of main concern.

Returning to my first comment about the value of having an East Asian Medicine background, I see that the relationship between the mouth/jaw and the breast also has a strong connection with the stomach channel, and the earth element. In an early stage, channel issues can be resolved by using East Asian Medicine (meridian therapy, acupuncture, herbs) to resotre balance, and clear blockages in these areas.

Having a visual perspective of these patterns really helps us to understand what is happening deeper in the body. Being a visually driven society, seeing these images can be very motivating for us to maintain conviction in improving our health and making lifestyle changes.
